Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

  • Awesome Music: "Salvay's simply awesome horror score"
  • Canon Sue: Downplayed with Izzy, who manages to injure the Creeper, but still dies.
  • Complete Monster: The Creeper in contrast with many mute monster predators is more emotional and it's implied he doesn't kill and/or eats people just for feeding himself but he probably has fun in doing it. Just look the Slasher Smile he has on his face when he's about to do something horrible.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: The Creeper is incredibly popular with fans.
  • Fetish Fuel: Plenty, if you can see past the horror and Squick.
  • First Installment Wins: The original is generally seen as being much creepier than the sequel due to the lighting, atmosphere and other horror elements. The fact that the Creeper is shown more in the sequel also kills the scary factor somewhat. There are also other factors that make the sequel seem more like a generic teen horror film than the previous film.
    • The fact that the murder church from the first was based on a real killer's hideout helps it to be based in reality and thus scarier.
  • Fridge Logic:
    • How does a monster that could never remotely pass as human get a vanity license plate?
      • If he knows enough about auto-mechanics to soup his truck's engine up to the point of going 100mph, it's not unlikely that he knows how to make his own plates.
    • If the monster has to eat parts of people to repair the corresponding parts of itself, then how is it supposed to repair damage to its wings?
      • In the second film, the Creeper replaces his ruined head with that of one of the students. The screeching appendage that grasps the new head and incorporates it into the Creeper's body implies that the Creeper is more than just an assemblage of human body parts that need replaced.
      • According to its page on The Other Wiki, the Creeper's wings and clawed hood are a separate, nigh-indestructible entity.
  • Hell Is That Noise: HONK HOOOOOONK!
  • Paranoia Fuel
  • Sequelitis: The second film was not as well received as the first.
    • Ironically, the whole premise of The Creeper ("every 23 years, for 23 days, it feeds") was written to avert this very thing, which led to Jeepers Creepers 2 to be set days after the first. The third film, however, will be set 23 years later.
  • Squick: Many moments, but the Creeper pulling the tongue out of a decapitated head with his teeth definitely qualifies.
  • Tear Jerker: Darry being snatched by the Creeper is made utterly heart-wrenching by Trish's horrified, anguished screams. Prior to that, her begging the Creeper to take her instead of Darry can also produce this reaction.
Cquote1

Darry: Don't you... don't you be a hero!!

Cquote2
  • Unfortunate Implications: Due to director Victor Salva's past conviction for child molestation, some viewers were extremely uncomfortable with the opening scene of the second movie (in which Billy is snatched by the Creeper).
    • This also makes a scene in the first movie (the Creeper goes through and sniffs Darry's underwear) even more unsettling.
    • Then again, just about any scene with the Creeper becomes uncomfortable with that knowledge in hand.
  • Why Don't You Just Destroy the Corpse?: After Jack severely injures the Creeper at the end of the second movie, instead of doing the sensible thing and chopping the body to pieces and/or setting the pieces on fire, he stitches it back together and uses it as a tourist attraction, knowing it might reanimate 23 years later. Jack had proven to be incredibly Badass throughout the movie, but that decision alone may prove him to be Too Dumb to Live.
    • Unless he figured it would come back no matter what and it was better to have it somewhere he could keep an eye on it.
  • The Woobie: Darry and Jezelle from the first film, and Minxie, Rhonda, Bucky and Jack Sr. from the second film.
