Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

You just launched a trope, gave it a snappy title, wrote a full description, and gave plenty of examples, but you can't think of what index it fits in. It's not just a matter of forgetting to put in an index. It's that you actually don't know which one(s) the page belongs in.

In that case, you have a few options.

  • Ask in the forum thread Needs an index.
  • Leave this trope title as a message where the index would be, or put the trope title on this list, and hope Wiki Magic puts the appropriate index in its place. (Click the "Related" button above to see wicks to pages that need one.)
  • Ask The Forums and/or Ask the Tropers for help finding a suitable index.
  • Browse the Index Index for ideas, and don't be afraid to hunt for more than one. The Tropes of Legend often have upwards of six.
  • Some pages may need an index that we don't actually have, in which case, suggest the index on YKTTW.

If you know of an appropriate index, just insert the trope into the index page, check that the nav bar is showing on the trope page, delete the message, and delete the trope from this page. We had a feature to identify pages without indexes, but it no longer functions with the new system.

A page that needs an index probably also Needs Wiki Magic Love.

Please italicize the names of works in order to separate them from the trope names.
