Sonichu #0
Cquote2

Sonichu is a webcomic created by a guy named Christian Weston Chandler, starring (at least initially) the eponymous Electric Hedgehog Pokémon and his friends.

It's widely considered to be the worst webcomic ever made.

It started as some sort of Pokémon/Sonic the Hedgehog crossover, and the first few issues focused on Sonichu's origin, his meeting with his "heartsweet" Rosechu (based heavily on Amy Rose), and a supporting cast of other Hedgehog Pokémon of various types. But in issue #2 and from issues 4 on, the series crystallizes into its present form, as "Chris-Chan" takes center stage, standing his ground against, among others, evil mall cops who tried to ban him for soliciting sex in real life, a malevolent witch who tried to kick him out of the college she was a dean of in real life, and internet Trolls. The comic is a clusterfuck of woeful writing (with numerous Walls of Text™) in Comic Sans, abominable artwork, and blatant Wish Fulfillment, along with shows of racism, sexism, and homophobia. Also, the creator's autistic, and he tries to use that as an excuse as much as he can, with predictable results. There's a lot of horseshit regarding him, and the comic's a categorical catastrophe.

The comic was initially cancelled in 2010, allegedly due to "stress" from the trolls. A "fan" allegedly paid Chris $1,000 to revive the comic in 2015, but this ultimately didn't pan out... Chris abandoned the comic yet again in early 2016. However, the comic was picked up yet again in 2017 and now updates sporadically.

Feel free to edit, but keep the aforementioned horseshit out as much as possible.

Tropes used in Sonichu include:
  • Aborted Arc: The author's racing, easily-distracted imagination causes this trope to be in play a lot. Once the comic returned from hiatus, nearly every element or plot thread influenced by trolls was undone.
    • Issue 13 has multiple major plot threads that show up randomly and are resolved extremely quick. Then, the entire issue was wiped from canon.
  • All There in the Manual: Multiple cases, to the point where many of the villains are only properly described in the series' Universe Bible, affectionately dubbed the CWCipedia.
  • And Knowing Is Half the Battle: Almost literally: Mid-panel, there will often be a cautionary message, like encouraging parents to pay attention to the age ratings on the games their kids play, or a plug for Little Big Planet.
  • Animated Actors: Supposedly Sonichu and Rosechu are married and have children "outside" of the comic... which makes it even more difficult to figure out on what level of reality all this insanity is taking place on. Even the characters themselves are having trouble with telling the difference between their reality and in-universe fiction, such as Sonichu mistaking drawings of Rosechu in the nude as real candid photographs of her.
  • Artifact of Doom: The Black Sonichu Medallion worn by Reldnahc.
  • Artifact Title: Sonichu was originally about the adventures of the titular Electric Hedgehog pokemon. Then the comic shifted focus to the misadventures of Chris-Chan. Later issues acknowledge this and state that the comic is now about Sonichu and Christine.
  • As the Good Book Says.../Broken Aesop: Rosechu uses Joseph’s story to remind Sonichu to show forgiveness to Jason Kendrick Howell. This is immediately thrown out the window when Jason beans Rosechu with a pickle and she responds by face raping him.
  • Author Avatar: Chris-Chan.
  • Author Appeal: Numerous references to anime and Adult Swim programs, a Monty Python quote or two, and most famously Rosechu making pornographic pictures of herself to try countering troll accusations of her having a "pickle".
  • Author's Saving Throw: Once the comic came back from hiatus, the author went out of their way to undo a ton of plot elements they didn't like anymore. Issue 10 had all of its violent and homophobic content removed, as well as a story arc apologizing for said homophobia and violence. Punchy/Layla and Reginald/Angelica broke up and their partners were swapped. Simonla was brought Back From the Dead and Simonchu was officially added to Sonichu canon as her brother.
  • Author Vocabulary Calendar: As is typical of autistic people, Chris has invented his own lexicon that almost no one understands, and which he uses with reckless abandon. As such, we get awkward terms like "boyfriend-free girl", "gal-pal", "heart level", "shattered heart", "love quest", and "heartsweet".
  • Autobiographical Role: An extremely unique and perplex example. Originally, the comic had many "Sub-Episodes" that were fantastical, cartoony retellings of things that happened to the author in real life. Then, the comic became about the author's avatar with several bits and incidents from their real life drama added into the comic. This makes it fairly difficult to talk about the comic without talking about things that really happened to the author, since the work is now some kind of bizarre, fantastical retelling of their life the way they wanted it to go down.
    • Things got even weirder after the "Idea Guys" incident. Now the author believes everything that happened in the comic is 100% real from an alternate reality. So now, the comic is actually meant to be an autobiography. This also technically means every character in the series fits this trope in-universe.
  • Age Cut: Done in the Spring Break issue to show that certain characters are of legal age to be TRUE and HONEST couples.
  • Back From the Dead: After being killed for seven years, Simonla was revived in Issue 11 with a retcon that she was just injured, and recovered in time to celebrate Christmas with her family.
  • Bald of Evil: A fair few of the male villains.
  • Berserk Button: In the older issues, Rosechu and pickles, Sonichu being called a homo. Post-revival, neither of these apply anymore.
  • Better Than a Bare Bulb: Sonichu Lampshades the comic's major use of Wall of Text at one point.
  • Bigger Is Better in Bed: The "Giant Penis Comic", which is Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Scarily, said, penis has a 45-degree bend to it.
  • Big No: Chris-Chan, when he learns that a date he was about to go on was just a setup.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: Magi-Chan Sonichu enforces CWCville's anti-homosexuality and child abuse laws by spying telepathically on people having sex, on the off-chance that two men might be having sex at any time (which equates to a $500 fine or 50 hours of community service). This was eventually Retconned.
  • Bland-Name Product: Rosechu uses a "Quadak"-brand digital camera in Sonichu 8.
    • Also in the Sub-Episodes, we have "MCDville", "Mal-Wart", "Fa-Square", and "Sho-Mall". Chris even calls his alma mater "Prowldent Virginia Community College" at one point. Made even more confusing by the fact that actual brand names appear in the comics, too.
  • Boring Invincible Hero: The main cast. This is slowly but surely turned Up to Eleven.
  • Bouquet Toss: Sarah does this to Chris-Chan at the end of Episode 12.
  • Celibate Hero: Magi-Chan, the most powerful Sonichu and the Only Sane Man, used to not seek romance. This soon changes-- he became Silvana's boyfriend before eventually entering a polyamorous marriage with Christine Chandler (the author), Mew Two and Silvana, along with Christine's unnamed future wife.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: The comic started out relatively light-hearted and had about the same tone as an episode of the shows it copied. Even with the depraved sex acts in issue 8, the characters were at least enjoying themselves. Issue 9 had at least three gruesome character deaths that came totally out of left field, and Issue 10 had the heroes destroy a building full of people resulting in hundreds of deaths over internet trolling and ended with one of the main characters dying before she could meet her unborn child, followed by the extremely violently, grisly executions of four people. The comic went on very long hiatus afterwards, so for years this was essentially the end of the comic.
    • Things began to perk up a bit when the comic returned. The ending of Issue 10 was completely rewritten so that nobody died or was tortured, and it's also implied that the destruction of the 4-Cent Garbage building no longer had any causalities. It was a pretty straight example of Reverse Cerebus Syndrome.
    • Unfortunately, that didn't last. In fact, It Got Worse when the author was victimized in real life by a group of trolls called "The Idea Guys" who started manipulating the author's already fragile mental state. The 13th issue of the comic has no cover, no coloring and is mostly words with occasional illustrations. The events described are totally incomprehensible and involve mass death, Nazi invader, rape, torture, mental breakdowns, cults and a veritable melting pot of terrible things happening to everything and everyone. Though the entire issue is now firmly Canon Dis Continuity, residual bits and plot elements from it have spilled into the rest of the comic, and the real life trauma it caused the author to go through is enough to make you sick.
    • The backstories of several characters and elements of the story were made Darker and Edgier as the author's tastes changed. Team Rocket now explicitly kill pokemon and humans, including the parents of both Sonichu and Naitsirhc.
  • Character Filibuster: Played straight when Chris-Chan harangues the "Jerkops" (policemen who tried removing him from a mall) after defeating him, or Sonichu's impassioned speech given to "Jason" on the top of "Four-Cent Garbage" building about trolling.
  • Chickification: Megagi La Skunk was initially a rough tomboy Action Girl. By issue 9, she's a literal cheerleader for Bionic.
  • Compressed Hair: Mary Lee Walsh, on-and-off.
  • City of Adventure: CWCville is supposed to be like this, but the accidentally Orwellian overtones kinda wreck that portrayal. Luckily, the Orwellian overtones were heavily scaled back after the comic was revived.
  • Christmas Special
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Several characters are introduced, only to have little to no relevance later on.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: The heroes subject Sean, Evan, Mao and Alec to this in Sonichu 10. Then they kill them. Somehow, the reader is supposed to root for the torturers. A later version of the comic book has them sent off to an Amish plantation instead.
    • Mercifully averted later on when the author went back and retconned the original ending, now the Asperpedia Four are simply sent to live in an Amish community without the internet. Sure, the trial is still clearly rigged, but being forced to move as a punishment for attempted murder is a lot less heinous than slow torture.
  • Combination Attack: Chrs-Chan Pure Pulse-Jolt Lance! So awesome and Animesque, it was misspelled twice.
  • Contractual Immortality: All the protagonists. Simonla was supposedly Killed Off For Real during the comic's long hiatus, but when the comic came back and the trolls stopped caring, Chris retconned her death and revealed she was just injured.
  • Cosmic Keystone: The Sunstone. It gets forgotten the issue after it's introduced.
    • The Reality Stone is introduced in Sonichu 13 to explain why the "Idea Guys" can change the comic anymore.
  • Creator Breakdown: The creator was motivated to make the comic in the first place by their real-life drama, and major negative events in their life caused entire plot points to emerge and change. Reading the comic can get scary because its like watching the author slowly lose their mind.
  • Cross-Popping Veins: In one picture of Reldnahc Notsew Naitsirhc.
  • Crossover: Of Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokémon, originally.
  • Cure Your Gays: Chris-Chan's anti-gay vaccine. The fact that he donated some of his own blood to create said vaccine makes it kinda funny if you know enough about vaccines.
    • Soundly averted when the comic returned. Chris explicitly states the vaccine was a total failure and even apologizes to all the people he tried to change. The author later came out as trans and later bisexual herself and had an entire episode dedicated to a gay pride festival.
  • Cute and Psycho: Sandy hears about Evan killing her her mother, Simonla, a few minutes after being born. In Simonla's trial, Evan is sentenced to being bludgeoned to death by Sandy, who at the time is only a few weeks old.
    • Though the above was eventually retconned, elements of this still exist. When she sees her uncle Simonchu for the first time since the incident she immediately threatens to kill him.
  • Darker and Edgier: Issue 10, which features Chris-Chan torturing four people to death in the most brutally inhumane ways- including snapping their bones, shooting them at point black range, electrocuting someone until they end up a burned husk, and forcing a girl with the emotional maturity of a fourth grader to drill someone to death.
    • Lighter and Softer: The above was all totally retconned and apologized for. Now, the four people are simply sent to live in an Amish community, and apparently they actually really enjoy it there.
    • Issue 13, as mentioned above, is a very painful example of this.
    • Even after Issue 13 was retconned, Chris still seems to enjoy a touch of darker plot elements. Team Rocket are now Ax Crazy killers, Cwcville has biker gangs and mobsters, and Ted Bundy is a minor character. But he was apparently falsely accused in this universe.
  • Demoted to Extra: Sonichu himself takes a backseat to everyone else in the comic after issue #1.
  • Depending on the Artist: This series manages to be a single-artist version of this trope. We can prove it, too.
  • Depraved Bisexual: Silvana.
  • Deus Ex Machina: Magi-chan is "psychic", which means that he can teleport anyone in and out of action and explain, out of the blue, what the heck the other characters are supposed to actually do in these stories. Psychic powers: the perfect putty to plug plot holes.
  • The Devil Is a Loser: Beel, ostensibly a Satan analogue, but also the peevish secretary of the 4-Cent Garbage HQ.
  • Disappeared Dad: Done retroactively for Wild in Sonichu #8.
  • Disproportionate Retribution. Mostly done pre-revival. Post-revival, many of the below examples were undone.
    • Chris-Chan inflicts a horrible curse on the Jerkhief that results in the loss of the his family, home, and everything he owns--for arresting him over... something. It was never properly explained. Presumably undone when Chris defeated Mary Lee Walsh.
    • In Sonichu 10, Author Avatar Chris and Sonichu attack the 4-cent_garbage.com Tower with The Power of Rock which causes the building to collapse, killing 100 of its workers and injuring another 150. Chris-Chan's following dialogue makes it clear that he thinks they deserved it... for being trolls.
    • A guy accidentally calls Family Guy's Meg Griffin a man. Chris-Chan gets upset. The guy accidentally calls him a woman. He punches the man in the face.
    • Based on rather flimsy evidence, they linked Alec, Evan, Sean, and Mao to the murder of Simonla Rosechu. So what does Author Avatar Chris do? Have a show trial with an obviously biased judge, order the four to be executed and then kill them onscreen in the most brutal ways possible.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Crystal, Chris-Chan's sister.
  • Distress Ball: Rosechu carries this. A LOT.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Ivy’s vision of becoming Chris-Chan’s girlfriend. Even better, God and Jesus back her up on it.
  • Dungeon Master: Magi-Chan has elements of this kind of character. Despite being near omniscient and very powerful, he usually does little more than teleport other characters where they need to go and serve as comic's resident Mr. Exposition.
  • Egopolis: CWCville, where everything is named after the mayor. The currency (C-Quarters and W-Quarters), the only known radio station, (KCWC) the soda brand. (CWC Cola) The mayor's birthday is celebrated as Christian Love Day.
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: The rainbow formed from Sonichu's creation, which turned a Raichu into Rosechu and made eggs that would eventually hatch into the Chaotic Combo and Silvana.
    • "Yes! My love quest is finally over!"
    • It should be noted that every time there's a rainbow in the comic, it's colored wrong.
  • Evil Is Petty: Mary Lee Walsh and the Jerkops have nothing better to do than keep Chris-Chan from getting a girlfriend. Yes, fucking really.
  • Evil Twin: Played straight with Reldnahc Notsew Naitsirhc, who is the complete opposite of Chris-Chan, a member of Team Rocket who later came out of the closet, and later still was cured of homosexuality. Also, Black Sonichu (later renamed Blake, to avoid looking racist), who is to Sonichu what Shadow is to Sonic.
  • Evil Tower of Ominousness: The 4-Cent Garbage Headquarters, all 66+ 6 floors of it.
  • Expansion Pack Past:
    • The Chaotic Combo were originally birthed by the rainbow created when Sonichu became a Sonic/Pikachu hybrid, in the late '90s, at the same time as Sonichu. Supposedly this created all the Sonichus at once, except then the writer started adding in more and more Sonichus, some of whom were said to be older than Sonichu or Rosechu. But after the author started drawing then in sex scenes, he had realized a bit late that the characters were underage. In response, he declared the eggs were sent back in time, making everyone 18 or older, and that others were hurled though time and space.
    • Taken to extremes on the CWCipedia, which contains everything from the obvious long time ago (like Sonichu and Rosechu being married and having children) to the plot-relevant, none of which shows up in the comic.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Jason Kendrick Howell, who thus looks like Big Boss.
  • Fatal Flaw: Chris-chan just can't get the girl. And later on in the comic, he can't keep her.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Anytime anybody dies in the comic, their survivors take a panel or so to say "we've got to move on" and do just that.
  • For the Evulz: All of the villains have little motivation towards tormenting Chris-Chan "because." The closest thing to a given explanation is that they just don't want him to find love.
  • Freudian Excuse: "Slaweel" hates love because she's a social outcast who isn't loved herself.
  • Frozen in Time: The popularity of franchises, aspects, popular music, fads and toys within the comics and the subject's life seems to be stuck perpetually in 1999.
  • Generation Xerox: Sandy Rosechu, Simonla Rosechu's daughter. Introduced as a way of keeping Simonla after killing her off. Made pointless when the 2015 extension to the Christmas special sees Simonla "miraculously" survives the attempt on her life.
  • Godwin's Law: Beel, a secretary for 4-cent garbage, was revealed to be an assistant for Hitler and is condemned to being a troll for all eternity. and the less said about Issue 13, the better.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: Jiggliami's song "War of Love" (a ripoff of "Love is War" by Miku Hatsune) in Episode 18.
  • Groin Attack: Called 'Kicking them in the Sourdough Area'. Performed unto a Jerkop in Sub-Episode 1, and recommended by Chris-Chan as the ideal form of self-defense against both regular and King Mook king-sized Jerkops in Sub-Episode 6.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: Yes, way too goddamn much. It doesn't help this is all totally invalidated by the fact that the author explicitly came out as bi later.
  • Hermaphrodite: Silvana. And before you ask, yes, Rule 34 art of Silvana exists.
  • Idol Singer: Jiggliami.
  • IKEA Erotica: Rosechu actually says "Insert Rod A into Slot B" before sex with Sonichu. It's intended to be erotic.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Jiggliami's manager, Blanca, who also plays "lead Guitar Hero" for her. It's not entirely clear whether she plays an actual guitar and plays Guitar Hero on the side for practice or if all she can play is Guitar Hero which makes it all the more difficult to believe she and Jiggliami are huge pop stars.
  • I'm Having Soul Pains: Literally, in the case of a Jerkop in Sub-Episode 1.
  • Inferred Holocaust/No Endor Holocaust: We are told that the Jerkops swell their numbers using a Hypno Ray hypnotic ray gun that only affects the mentally impaired. Which means that when the heroes do battle with them, they're actually pummeling innocent retards. This wasn't addressed until issue 9, and then, such addressing was disregarded until issue 10.
  • Informed Ability: Punchy is apparently a master of "random-access humor", but never used it in the comic.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Kel calls Rosechu "as beautiful as a rose".
  • Informed Attribute: The ladies are Satellite Characters for their Spear Counterparts and play up rather outdated female archetypes. While they have personalities (as per the Universe Bible) they're never really touched upon.
    • This gets somewhat better, eventually. After the author transitioned to female, the girl characters got a bit more screentime. Nothing too dramatic, though.
  • In the Hood: Jason Kendrick Howell conceals his Eyepatch of Power with a voluminous cloak.
  • In the Name of the Moon: Chris-Chan and Crystal often announce their status as warriors of love and honesty, while Sailor Megtune is fond of these speeches as well.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Author Avatar Christian's signature attack "Curse-ye-ha-me-ha"
  • Kangaroo Court: The trial held for Sean, Alec, Simon and Mao in the Sonichu 10 finale, complete with a clearly biased judge, a prosecutor who drags up completely unrelated issues to the trial and forced self-representation.
    • Despite their gruesome executions getting erased from canon, the Asperpedia Four are still given an absurd punishment: they are exiled to an Amish Community and apparently forced to convert. Completely unconstitutional, but considering the alternative, nobody's complaining.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: If you've ever found yourself frustrated with the characters or the thing they get away with, the absolutely horrors of Issue 13 will surely sate your rage... only for you to immediately turn it to the "Idea Guys" who coerced Chris into writing it.
  • Kudzu Plot: Not a traditional example of this considering the story isn't really all that complex, the randomly shoehorned-in plot elements aren't all that good for the comic's flow. This was promptly fixed--by offing most of the cast.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Quoth Mary Lee Walsh, "Eh... first we've had the parodic transformations, now we actually have a Sailor Moon pretty girl sailor soldier? What a kooky world."
  • Legion of Doom: In issue 7, almost all the previous villains team up and try to take over CWCville. In Issue 9, they finally attack, but pretty soundly get their asses kicked.
  • Loads and Loads of Characters
  • Lolicon: Zapina, who "just turned 14-years cute," wants to pose nude for women's rights just like all the other female characters, but in a bizarre inversion of There Should Be a Law, the "dumb laws" make it illegal--as Rosechu points out.
    • The infamous and retconned Issue 13 has her as one of the "female slaves" at a prison camp. The less said, the better.
  • Love At First Sight All the romantic pairings in the comic.
  • MacGuffin: The seven Sonichu Balls. They make God Mode Sues even more Godlike.
  • A Man Is Not a Virgin: The goal of Chris-Chan's "Love Quest”. He finally succeeds in Issue 10.
  • The Mayor Who Doesn't Do Anything: Despite being CWCville's mayor, Chris-Chan does very little work in comparison to his secretary, former film star Allison Amber.
  • Medium Blending: Several comics feature stills of Creator Cameo Chris in place of the drawn version interacting with drawn characters.
  • Mismatched Eyes: Chris-Chan (left: blue, right: green) and Reldnahc (left: brown, right: red)
  • Mood Whiplash: The characters have an uncanny ability to completely forget that something absolutely awesome or something devastatingly tragic happened.
  • Most Common Superpower: Mary Lee Walsh.
  • My Girl Is a Slut: Much of the female cast.
  • Name's the Same: Chris-Chan's sister and daughter are both named Crystal. Yet, since February 2015, Chris has been calling himself "Christine".
  • Nonhumans Lack Attributes: Subverted. Although some scenes portray the title character (and others) as featureless, the author goes out of his way in issue #8 to explain the anatomical details that conceal their genitalia and nipples.
  • Non-Indicative Name: The Chaotic Combo does not produce chaos on a regular basis. Magi-chan is a psychic, not a mage. Bionic is not a cyborg, an android, or a robot. Collosal-chan is no bigger than Chris-Chan. Super Chris-chan Sonichu is just Chris-chan Sonichu with some wing hairclips on. We still have no idea what Merried Senior Comic is supposed to even mean.
  • Not Right in the Bed: This is how Bubbles Rosechu discovers her lover is really resident shapeshifting Hermaphrodite Silvana. They never really got around to the sex.
  • Number of the Beast: The 4-Cent Garbage Headquarters is "66+ 6" stories tall.
  • Off-Model: Despite being one of the few cases where there isn’t a uniform model to begin with, seeing the characters randomly change size or even shape in the same page is very disorienting.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Sonichu saves Slaweel Ryam's life in episode 20 because "the final blow belongs to Christian." Chris-Chan returned the next issue, had a heart-to-heart talk with Slaweel, learned about her Freudian Excuse, declared he'll never forgive her anyway and beat her up, paralyzing her in the process. She gets better, though, and isn't happy.
  • Only Sane Man: Perhaps unintentionally, Magi-Chan.
  • Orphaned Series: Expect very long hiatuses
  • Pair the Spares: Common.
  • Pals with Jesus: Both God and Jesus (aka GodJesus) have appeared in-comic to congratulate Ivy on being Chris' future mate. After the author ascends to godhood, this becomes a common plot element.
  • Panty Shot: Later episodes have a lot of shots of Rosechu's panties.
  • Pokémon Confusion: Your average CWCville Pokémon has about a 50/50 chance of being either a regular Pokémon or a humanoid Poké-person with clothes and Non-Mammal Mammaries.
  • Plagiarism: Most of the jokes in Sonichu are lifted verbatim from Family Guy, Excel Saga, Monty Python and various Adult Swim shows, often out-of-context. Many of the drawings are actually traced from other images.
  • Plot Hole: Chris-Chan eventually makes it "legal for all homosexuals to do as they please within the city", unaware that just a few pages before, he "cured" homosexuality. eventually it was retconned when it was revealed the vaccine was an instant and immediate failure and Chris became a transwoman the very next day.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up: The daughter of Wild and Simonla transformed from a Rosey into Sandy Rosechu and gained intellectual abilities of a fourth-grader in a mere week since her birth (just in time to contribute to the death sentence of four men).
    • All of Sonichu's children instantly aged-up (or "evolved") as a direct result of the plot of Sonichu 11.
  • Potty Failure: Happens to Reldnahc once.
  • The Power of Rock: Used to demolish the 4-Cent Garbage building by, believe it or not, using Guitar Hero/Rock Revolution instruments to sing a song about how much better Power Rangers used to be, sung to the tune of Cat Scratch Fever.
  • Product Placement: Both real and fictional.
  • Psychic Powers: Magi-Chan, complete with Pstandard Psychic Pstance.
  • Punny Name: Chris-Chan is pronounced pretty much like Christian.
  • Put on a Bus: Several. Metal Sonichu is still up on the moon, waiting for his comeback; Sarah Hammer, aka Saramah Rosechu, disappeared from the comic after she married William Spicer. Crystal (the sister) was removed when she was trapped in the "dark mirror" by Mary Lee Walsh and Count Graduon. All the characters promised to go and rescue her, but the next comic was about them going on spring break and having lots of sex, and Crystal hadn't been mentioned again until Chris goes God Mode Sue and ties up the loose ends as quickly as possible. Jiggliami and Blanca were shooed off the comic with a footnote explaining that Jiggliami went away and had a successful career. Chris-Chan himself was removed for a brief period of time after he was lost in the time void. Then he came back, and left again, explicitly announcing that he won't be back and is going to leave the story to its title character. He broke his promise on the very first page of Issue 10.
  • Put on a Bus to Hell/Bus Crash: Chris's "sweethearts" in the comic. Then he took out two of his enemy characters not through an honorable fight, but having them realize homosexuality is wrong, that Chris-Chan was right, and suddenly be content to commit suicide by jumping down their building's 72-story elevator shaft.
  • Rape Is Okay When Its Female On Male: Rosechu's heroic "face-rape" of Jason Kendrick Howell.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: The biggest reason for Kudzu Plot. Issue #10 in particular exists in its current state due to a massive dose of this.
  • Retcon: Very common, ranging from the minor to the utterly drastic.
  • Rouge Angles of Satin and Wanton Cruelty to the Common Comma: A recurring problem in Sonichu.
    • He even has a character named Merried Seinor Comic.
    • It is "last rites," NOT "last rights."
  • Screw Learning, I Have Phlebotinum: Somehow, getting smacked with a powered-up hedgehog or a rainbow instantly gives wild rodents the ability to talk and reason like humans.
  • Sdrawkcab Name: Reldnahc Notsew Naitsirhc.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Count Graduon, the oddly named evil spirit defeated long ago by the Cherokee and Wasabi tribes.
  • Secret Relationship: Bubbles and Blake keep their relationship a secret because... well, it's never really stated.
  • Sex as Rite-Of-Passage: A recurring theme.
  • Shallow Love Interest: Rosechu. She pretty much only exists to show that Sonichu is STRAIGHT. Ivy O'Neil in the comics can be considered this too. She's told by God and Jesus that her true love is to be Chris himself once he escapes from the mirror, and she accepts this without question or protest. She's pretty much not characterised at all beyond that. Then she dies horribly.
    • Pretty much all of Chris' fake girlfriends are shallow and disappear almost as quickly as they show up, due to being creations of trolls in real life.
    • Somewhat Subverted in Sonichu 15. Rosechu has her backstory explored and her characterization expanded, with her struggles to find an identity and understand the world around her being the central focused. This sudden jump is writing quality comes from the fact that Chris lifted it wholesale from a fan comic.
  • Shock and Awe: Sonichu, like most Electric Hedgehog Pokémon, is ostensibly a lightning user. Oddly, even though most of the characters are described as "Electric Hedgehog Pokémon," Sonichu is the only one who uses electric powers with any kind of regularity, because they either have secondary typing that they focus on (the Chaotic Combo) or aren't Electric-type at all. (Jamsta, Lolisa and Simonla). It still doesn't explain why the pure Normal-type Jamsta and Lolisa or the Ground/Bug-type Simonla are still classified as Electric Hedgehog Pokemon.
  • Shout-Out: There are several intended shoutouts throughout the series, but they all come off as ripoffs.
  • Show, Don't Tell: AVERTED. Chris even once JUSTIFIED it by saying "some people don't get visual references".
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Sonichu and Rosechu. To a lesser extent, the other couples count too.
  • Sissy Villain: Reldnahc Notsew Naitsirhc. Because he's gay, after all. Though later became more, shall we say, "butch."
  • Species Surname: Most Sonichus and Rosechus.
  • Status Quo Is God
  • Stay in the Kitchen: Rosechu, strictly speaking, should be at least as powerful as Sonichu (in fact, she should actually be more powerful since she evolved from a Raichu), but her life revolves around shopping (and spending too much money when she does it), giving gifts to Sonichu, and getting kidnapped.
  • Stuffed Into the Fridge: In Issue 9, PandaHalo was burned alive and Ivy was strangled by elevator wire.
  • Stylistic Suck: The Take That goven towards Asperchu.
  • Super Empowering: Chris can give people, like his dog, superpowers.
  • Super Mode: Ultra Sonichu, based on Super Sonic. Colossal Chan, based on the Super Saiyan 4 transformation.
  • Surfer Dude: Jamsta Sonichu is supposed to fill this role (see note on Totally Radical below).
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Sandy to Simonla.
  • The Ace: Bionic is a particularly egregious example of this.
  • This Is a Drill: Simonla has a drill at the end of her tail and can turn her hand into drills. She is indirectly based on Simon from Gurren Lagann. Simonchu is a more direct reference, but wasn't officially added to the comic until the revival. Sandy also inherited her mother's drills, so now there's three drill-armed character running around.
  • Totally Radical: Much of the slang dates back to the 1990s, and can date as far back as the '80s.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Sonichu Medallion allows Chris-Chan to transform into his super-powered fursona. Then the creator retconned that it was actually his high school ring that gave him his powers, thus creating a new MacGuffin for his fandom.
  • Troll: They're depicted in an uncomplimentary fashion.
  • Trope Overdosed
  • Tsundere: Bubbles, as per the Universe Bible.
  • Ultimate Evil: Count Graduon.
  • Unfortunate Character Design: Lovely Weather looks like a man.
  • Unsound Effect: *teleports in* among many others. They're all mostly based on Pokemon moves since 99% of the characters are Pokémon.
  • Unstoppable Rage: When Jason Kendrick Howell throws a pickle at Rosechu, she snaps, strips naked, and claws the shit out of his head while face-raping him.
  • Unusual Euphemism: "Raincoat" and "Pickle", among others.
  • Vanity License Plate: Chris-Chan has one. It reads "SONICHU."
  • Visual Pun: Internet trolls are represented as troll dolls.
  • Wall of Text: The most common form of dialogue. It gets so bad that some pages even have numbers telling the readers in what order to read the text in.
  • Wham! Episode: The end of issue 10 has one of the most shocking twists in the comic.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Anything remotely phallic besides his own "duck" makes Sonichu whimper, whine, and gag. Even pickles on a burger. On another note, touching the white mark on Chris-chan Sonichu's chest will make him revert to human form. This, however, has been used a grand total of two times, and he is always able to change back without problems, and has God Mode Sue powers in either form.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Metal Sonichu.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Mary Lee Walsh. Even after her Freudian Excuse (having never been loved herself) is revealed to her adversary, he still beats her into a state of paralysis.
  • Word Salad Humor: Known as Random-Access Humor.
  • Write Who You Know: Most of the characters that aren’t Pokémon or hedgehogs are derived from people the writer has met or “known” in real life.
  • Writing Around Trademarks: The reason why Sonichu exists in the first place.
  • Xanatos Roulette: The plan Sean, Evan, Alec and Mao hatch to kill Simonla Rosechu apparently hinges on Simonla going to the toilet in a cinema after the movie is over, going to one particular stall, not having anyone go to the toilet before her and not noticing a Voltorb (a large red and white orb with eyes) poorly hidden behind the toilet.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: Chris-Chan spent nine months trapped in the Time Void, but to him it felt closer to just one month.
