- Crowning Moment of Awesome: The channels' coverage of most hurricanes could qualify - and definitely their coverage of Hurricane Katrina.
- Crowning Music of Awesome: the tunes played over "Local on the 8s", which could range from stock light music, odd tunes including the instrumental theme to Clorox 2 ads in the 1980's, to well known instrumental rock tracks like "Oscillate Wildly" by The Smiths.

- Fun for Some: One of the ultimate examples of a default "start channel" on a cable system and one that is watched for hours by those both fascinated by weather systems or not energetic enough to change the channel.
- Harsher in Hindsight: The very first episode (as originally scheduled) of It Could Happen Tomorrow... which was titled 'New Orleans Hurricane'. It had been scheduled to air a month after the 2005 hurricane, and was eventually released as Katrina: The Lost Episode.
- Memetic Mutation: Jim Cantore's reaction to thundersnow during the Chicago Blizzard of February 2011, enough to warrant comment on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

- They Changed It, Now It Sucks: Oh, so much.
- One recent bone of contention is the channel's naming of winter storms. The National Weather Service has criticized them for this, and many others have accused them of sensationalism. A lot of fans blame this change on NBC's buyout of the channel...but NBC doesn't use the winter storm names on any of its shows, and Al Roker won't use the winter storm names on Today. NBC affiliates don't use the winter storm names, either.
- Unnecessary Makeover: What NBC has been doing ever since it got its hooks into the channel. (But, as pointed out above, they're not behind TWC's recent controversial practice of winter storm naming...)
