It is the reverse of Where Are They Now? Epilogue but for one episode, like where the characters were.
It's when the last scene of an episode shows when all the relevant characters were at the event that precipitated the events of the episode.
Examples:
- Oedipus Hex in CSI: NY
- Mutiny in JAG
- There is a montage to "Mad World" in second-to-last scene of Donnie Darko, in which we see many characters as they were before the plot took off. Or... where they are now, depending on how one interprets the whole time-travel thing.
- The final episode of Battlestar Galactica Reimagined has some flashbacks of many of the main characters prior to the Apocalypse How that starts the series.
- The episode "Needs" in Joss Whedon's Dollhouse does this, and reveals that the dolls' temporary self-awareness even their near-escape was all part of the House's plan.
